I think it’s getting good reviews, too. My big question would be, how capable is the four-cylinder engine? Could you coax a four-pot Stinger into a drift?

General consensus is, If you’ve decided to get the Stinger, get the GT.

I’d watch the Top Gear review first. It’s not biased, and overly “We will ignore how it drives because they built it.”

That’s a good idea. The Truth: I will probably never own one, but I might rent one from Turo sometime.

Are you SURE you won’t reconsider? I mean, over $4400 off MSRP. C’mon man DO IT! They’ll give you Top Dollar for your trade and 0% even if you have a 550 credit score!

One of those vehicles that people will regret not getting the big motor.

Well, that really was the point of the post: How adequate would the four-cylinder be? Pony up another 20 grand for two more cylinders and a whole bunch of complexity that has to get repaired, yada yada. For 3% of your driving.
I’d really like to discover how adequate the four-banger is. Too bad no manual trans is offered...
Isn’t an 8-speed gearbox essentially a CVT?

The four cylinder should be more than sufficient for a somewhat enjoyable daily driver. Yes, the GT is significantly better, but like you suggest, it’s also significantly more expensive.
I imagine one could break the rear end loose with the base model though, if one felt so inclined.

Did you watch this week’s Top Gear? Rory, and he isn’t alone I’ve seen several reviews to the same tune, said that of course it’s a lot of car for the money but it’s a little overhyped. While loooking good on paper it just doesn’t offer the same driving feel as the cars it’s aimed at.
I predict this as the new GT86/BRZ. Being praised as the scond coming of the Noodlemonster by the armchair people but actually falling flat in the real market when people have to put money where their mouth is.

How easily will it drift is a good metric for measuring vehicle performance.

Not in Canada it isn’t... strictly AWD only.
With all the talks about thr G70 getting the manual... I would not be surprised if that end up being AWD auto only as well.

Except Rory has no fucking clue what he’s talking about. In the UK, the Stinger GT costs less than every trim level of 5-Series except the 184hp base model. The equivalent 3-Series only has a 245hp 4-cylinder.
The Kia, meanwhile offers the space and performance of a 540i for £9K less.
Here in America, the Kia is $14K cheaper than the cheapest 5-Series, and $2K cheaper than a 4-banger 3-Series.

Is it the zf 8speed that’s in damn near everything? Because that’s a phenomenal transmission.
![]() 03/21/2018 at 17:53 |

The 4 is 240 HP it’s no slouch.

Not all ZFs are the same. The manufacturers apply their own tuning often ruining them.

Bruh: ya’ gonna tell us how you really feel?
And what is available at any price or trim level in the US that’s RWD?
I have but one question: will the Stinger with the four-banger drift?
![]() 03/21/2018 at 18:58 |
|
skip the 4-banger, just get the V8...
(sad trombone)

A less expensive car with RWD. And 250 HP in the base model. And it’s a sedan, not a coupe. New niche, says I.

Agreed. It’s a binary value.

See? That’s why we have a trade war right now. That, and a certifiably insane POTUS...
Are you allowed to import cars into Canada from the US?

Ooh: ya learnt me something.

My thinking... But how heavy is the car?

My automotive pursuits are bound by a measure of practicality. For example, I was in a friend’s shop the other day and a guy needed disks and pads on his V8 Beamer coupe. A thousand dollars just for the parts. And I bet his tires are $350 apiece. So better to rent one and thrash it and give it back.

better still if they offered a manual

The Stinger Review Review
That was a thoroughly bromantic, thoroughly brotastic and, I might add, thoroughly enjoyable bit. I really liked the guys and throughout, I was struck by how likeable I found the guys. I’ll look for more of their stuff. And sort of Canadian...
And the car looks great. I still want to see how the 2WD 4-banger performs.

Those two are great! Can’t speak for the four banger since we only get the v6 awd, but the GT2 seems like the one to get.

Yeah, too many bells and whistles and too much money for the GT2. Just not practical. Too much stuff to break..
